Matt Propeck

Ahoy Mates!

My name is Matt Propeck. I’ve worked with Rumblefish in a variety of positions over the past four years; first as an unpaid college intern to launching the Rumblefish Music Licensing Store.

Over the past few months my responsibilities have dramatically changed; for the next two years I’m circumnavigating the globe by 40 foot sailboat to bring you the best local music from around the world.

On May 4th, 2007 I was presented with an opportunity to sail with my college friend Hugh, his dad John, and stepmother Patricia. On May 7th I decided I would make this happen; I informed Rumblefish of my plans and set a departure date of June 25th.

For the next few weeks it was a frantic scramble to prepare for a minimalistic life at sea. Move out of my apartment, sell or donate everything I own, pay off credit cards, sell and pay off my months old car, and most importantly provide a proper goodbye to my family and friends.

Originally the purpose of this trip were many, some of which are; to experience new cultures, explore exotic locations, challenge myself, shape my worldly understandings, develop myself into a better human, and much more.

The above personal purposes are still important to me and are happening more rapidly than I expected, but now there is now an additional purpose…music. After discussing my plans with Paul Anthony, we saw a win-win situation where my basic living expenses would paid for while I locate music from around the world to include in the Rumblefish catalog and blog about my experiences.

This is only the beginning and already I’ve been to Australia, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, the middle of the miles deep Indian Ocean, and am now in Mauritius.

My personal blog will fill in the gaps up to here. Also stay tuned to this RumbleBlog as I’ll be posting music-centric updates from time to time.

I’m looking forward to bringing you music from Reunion Island, South Africa, Namibia, St. Helena Island, Brazil, the Caribbean, Panama, Ecuador, Galapagos…
